What is the Portsmouth League?

It is a postal league for local archery clubs. You shoot one Portsmouth round a month at your own club, enter the score here, and the tables update for everyone to see.

The 2026–27 season runs from October to February, so there are five rounds in total.

What is a Portsmouth round?

Five dozen arrows (60 in total) shot indoors at 20 yards on a 60cm target face. Each arrow scores up to 10, so the highest possible score is 600.

How do I submit my score?

Go to Submit my scores and enter the email address your club registered for you. Pick your bowstyle, type in your hits, golds and score, then press Add score.

Your score shows on the league table straight away.

What do hits, golds and score mean?

Hits is how many of your 60 arrows landed in a scoring zone. Score is your total out of 600.

Golds is the number of arrows that scored a 10.

When does my score need to be in?

By the 5th of the following month. So your October round has to be entered by 5 November.

From the 1st to the 5th of each month, the form lets you choose whether you are entering last month's score or this month's. Check you have picked the right month before you press Add score.

If you miss the deadline, get in touch with the organiser.

Can I change a score after I have submitted it?

Yes, up to the same deadline. Open Submit my scores, find the score in the table at the bottom and press Edit.

You get one score per bowstyle each month. If you shoot a better round later in the same month, edit your score and replace it.

Once the 5th has passed, that month is closed and the Edit button goes. If a closed score needs correcting, ask your club rep.

My email is not recognised. What do I do?

First check you are using the same address your club gave when they entered you. It may be a different one from the email you use day to day.

If it still does not work, ask your club rep to get your details added or corrected.

A few of us share one email address. Can we all enter?

Yes. When more than one archer is registered to the same email, the page asks who is submitting. Choose your name from the list and carry on as normal.

Can I enter more than one bowstyle?

Yes, as long as you were entered for each one at the start of the season. You shoot a separate round for each bowstyle and submit them one at a time. Only the bowstyles you are entered in appear in the dropdown.

How is the league won?

You compete against the other archers in your own category. Each month, everyone in your category is ranked by score and earns points for where they finish. In a category of 5 archers, 1st gets 5 points, 2nd gets 4, and so on down to 1 point for last.

Everyone who submits a score also gets 2 bonus points for taking part. If two archers have the same score, the one with more golds finishes higher, then the one with more hits.

Your points from each month are added together, and the archer with the most points at the end of February wins the category. Missing a month means no points for it, so shooting every month counts for more than one big score.

How are the categories decided?

Every archer is placed in a group by bowstyle, age bracket, gender category and experience. These are set from the entry form your club sent in, so you do not choose them when you submit.

If you think you are in the wrong group, tell your club rep or the organiser and it can be changed.
